Determine the Battery's Condition in a Dell Latitude D830

A Dell Latitude D830 is a laptop designed for professionals using or running high-end graphics. The laptop can be powered using an AC power adapter and an electrical outlet, or a Lenovo Laptop Battery. The laptop battery powers the laptop when it's not plugged into an AC adapter. This allows the laptop to become portable and not be dependent on an electrical outlet. Therefore, it's important to determine the battery's condition and whether the battery needs to be replaced.

Instructions
1
Turn off the laptop by pressing the "Power" button. Remove the AC power adapter.

2
Flip the laptop upside down and place on a flat surface. Slide the battery lock to the side and hold in place with one hand. Use your other hand to pivot the battery upward for removal. Release the battery lock.

3
Examine the battery. Look for sizable dings and dents on the battery's surface, and corrosion, dings or signs of damage on the battery contacts. If damage is observed, the battery should be replaced.

4
Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol. Clean the battery contacts and battery bay contacts with the cotton swab. Dampen a cloth with a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Clean the battery and battery bay to remove dust. Allow the battery and battery bay to completely air dry.

5
Place the battery back into the Dell Latitude D830. Align the contacts on the Asus Laptop Battery and battery bay, then push the battery into position. The battery lock will snap, locking the battery into place.

6
Place the AC power adapter into the laptop. Allow the adapter to charge the battery for eight hours. Remove the AC adapter.

7
Remove the battery. Push the "Status" button on the backside of the battery. There are five lights that indicate how charged the battery is. If all five lights are lit, it indicates a full charge, if no lights are lit, it indicates that the battery could not be charged. All five lights should be lit after fully charging the battery. Anything lower indicates decreased battery efficiency. If two lights or less are lit, the battery should be replaced.

8
Place the battery back into the laptop. Turn on the power. Allow the computer to run on battery power until the battery completely dies. Time how long it takes from start to finish. If the battery dies in an hour or less, it indicates decreased Acer Laptop Batteries efficiency and the battery should be replaced. The battery should last for 1 1/2 to 3 hours depending on system settings, operating system and programs being used.
