A Dell D600 Battery Won't Charge

The Latitude D600 is a laptop manufactured by Dell. A Dell laptop can be powered using an AC power adapter or a Dell Inspiron 15R battery. A Dell Latitude D600 uses a rechargeable lithium ion battery. The battery has a lifespan of one to two years or 400 charges/recharges. The most common reason the battery won't recharge is that the battery is dead or needs to be replaced. However, prior to replacing the battery, you should ensure the power source that's charging the battery is not defective.

Instructions
1
Remove the Dell Latitude D600 laptop battery, located on the bottom of the laptop. Slide the battery release button to the right. This will release the battery and it can be lifted upward for removal.

2
Press the "Status" button on the battery. If the battery light displays a steady orange light, the Asus X72J battery is low or needs to be charged. If the battery light displays a blinking orange light, the battery is defective and should be replaced. If the battery light flashes green, the battery is properly charged.

3
Insert the battery back into the battery bay. Properly align the battery over the battery bay and push the battery back into place.

4
Test an electric outlet with an electric item. Plug the item in and turn the item on. Once you have confirmed the electric outlet works, plug the laptop AC adapter into the outlet and the laptop. A Dell Latitude D600 AC adapter has a blue light on the AC adapter, indicating the adapter is receiving power. Ensure that the blue light is on. If it is not lit up, the AC adapter is not receiving power and may need to be replaced.

5
Allow the AC adapter to fully charge the battery overnight. Remove the AC power cord.

6
Remove the battery from the laptop. Press the "Status" button on the battery. If the battery displays an orange light, the battery has not received a charge and should be replaced. If the battery displays a green light, the Compaq Presario CQ61 battery has been fully charged. If the fully charged battery still won't work in the laptop, the battery bay may need to be inspected by a computer or Dell professional.
